Single interface to access heterogeneous content
ECIS provides a consistent web-based interface and access method for the repositories and data sources you already use. This reuse means the integration of ECIS costs a fraction of a typical integration project. The deployment effort is minimal.
Powerful query language
ECIS has a powerful query language that relies on a rich set of metadata (title, author, product number, company, etc.) and advanced operators. Users can easily design queries to retrieve very accurate information from their selected sources.
Intelligent query compensation
The ECIS query language does not have to be supported by the information sources. If a source does not support a specific operator or metadata, ECIS adapts the query and performs post-filtering to compensate and retrieve the best from the source. If the same information is retrieved from different repositories, ECIS provides a filter to avoid duplicates. Results are presented in a coherent, consistent manner even if the data collected comes from very different information sources.

Dynamic concepts
ECIS automatically groups search results into categories that are intelligently created from the words and phrases contained in them (clustering). Concepts may also be created around attributes defined by the user providing rapid and powerful analysis.
Relevancy ranking
ECIS provides on-the-fly ranking of results retrieved from the various sources of information.
Term highlighting
ECIS automatically highlights keywords in the list of results to facilitate the detection of those which are particularly relevant.
Document snapshot
ECIS dynamically extracts key sentences in the documents to create an intelligent snapshot of the source file.
Cross lingual search and comprehension
You can formulate a query in your mother tongue and ECIS will translate it into the language of the source being searched. When information is returned, the ECIS Multilingual Server provides a translation aid to help the user understand foreign language documents.
Export results to any application
After ECIS has retrieved results, you can easily export them to any kind of repository and application in order to collaborate and share knowledge.
Automatic Monitoring
To keep up-to-date with critical information, ECIS can store and schedule a query. The user precisely defines the query and how often it should be launched. ECIS then automatically identifies any changes from the previous query and notifies a distribution list via e-mail. Monitor the information that is key to you - simply, effortlessly and automatically.
Security
ECIS securely stores user queries, password and log-in information to all your sources on the ECIS server. It automatically passes this information onto the appropriate site as part of the query, avoiding repetitive log-in steps. Furthermore, once logged on to your network, you do not have to log-in again ECIS continues to use your existing network directory service.
Admin Center
ECIS provides a web-based interface for administration tasks such as adding a new source or configuring existing sources. It presents all the parameters of the sources and guides the administrator through the configuration process. It even includes a live test of the source before publishing it onto the ECIS server.
API - Java Application
ECIS provides a Java Server Pages (JSP) API allowing easy customization of any specific user interface. ECIS can then be integrated into best-of-breed corporate portals. ECIS also provides a RMI API for fine grained integration with any kind of application.
Breadth of sources
The ECIS innovative Adapter Technology provides an effective, scalable way to search any data repository. With ECIS thousands of sources are ready to use stretching from government or industry specific databases on the web, to local archives of unstructured information, structured information or web services.
Extensible architecture
ECIS provides a unique framework to easily connect any additional source, from simple web sources to very complex proprietary applications. The creation of new adapters does not imply custom development and maintenance requires minimal effort.
