ECIS provides you with a single interface to
internal (intranet) and external (Internet) sources of information, and
helps
you to reduce the time and cost of finding relevant information.

an overview of ECIS.
Standard Search Screen
The standard search screen displays the following menu items:

menu bar: provides access to Login, Domains, Preferences, and Advanced search panels
|

domain area: lists the sources to search
|
|
search area: defines the terms to search
|
|
status bar: indicates the status of the current search
|
|
cluster area: browse through categories of similar results
|
the result area:
- displays the title and a summary of results
- sorts results by relevance or personalizes the relevance
- accesses the detailed report of the search
- refers to the snapshot of a document
|
query bar:
- creates and saves new queries
- schedules regular searches (when using a personal account)

How to run your search?
For example, you are seeking information on the painters Picasso and Monet.
To perform the search, follow the procedure below:
- In the domain area, make sure that the first domain General
is selected (the corresponding icon must be highlighted in orange); otherwise, click
the icon.
- In the search area, enter paintings Picasso Monet.
- Click Search.
The result area displays numerous pages on the Web about paintings, Picasso and Monet.
- In the list proposed, click the title that interests you to reach the information directly.

Tips:
- By default, results are presented as soon as they are collected. To display results according to relevance, click the score link at the top of the result area.
- To view the results of your search in a more detailed list, click the
binocular icon at the top of the result area.
- In the cluster area, a list of categories including Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, or Van Gogh
is displayed. Use these categories to explore the list of results and narrow the display to a small subset of similar results.

How to make your search relevant?
To improve the previous search, follow the steps below:
- In the search box, enter body:paintings / title:Picasso Monet
- Press Search or Enter.
The result area displays fewer pages, but include a stronger focus on Picasso and Monet.

Expanded view.
